what colors would you use on the border of this baby?

I was going to suggest the dark green as the inner border. There is very little of that, and none of it is near the edges, so I thought that would be striking.
But if you have gone with rust, that will look good too.
Post pics when it is done!

you've already told us which colors you want. you aren't listening to your heart and instincts - which happen to be right on the money, m'dear.
your three favorite colors in the quilt are the yellow, rust and green. you had already decided on green for the binding. you've done the innermost border in rust (good choice, by the way). that leaves yellow for the second border. i wouldn't do 7", either. 2 or 3 at the most.
you have already said you don't like the idea of the flowered fabric in the border. too busy, you said. i'm sure the camp will divide on that. (i'll be on your side. )
trust yourself, grasshopper. you're better at this than you think.

azdesertrat--I love the quilt in your avatar!
PatriceJ--ha ha--you made me laugh. :D I've never been called a grasshopper before! :D
I tried the yellow next--thinking a slighty wider piece than the rust--but I haven't cut it just yet. I'm not sure yellow next is the best idea. But I'll decide soon and post pictures when it's done. I have it hanging on my ironing board so I can peek at it often--waiting for the next color to holler.

Just come in from a short holiday - my choice would be 1 inch finished in in rust, then one and a half inches finished in yellow, then four inches finished in one of the greens, then the other green in the binding... 7 inches in a floral would kill it.... has to be plainish for the borders, you will be super pleased like I was when I changed things for plain borders... the centre then stands out beautifully... the other way it is too busy.... looks a mess.... trust me !!! Please post photo when it is finished... love to see it...

i also agree with shadow dancer.
if i get stuck, which is a lot of the time, i audition different borders, just lay them on, and take a pic of each with the digital. i can put it on the computer and get a much better perspective by seeing it with new eyes.
a lot of times that helps me make a decision.
