Transparent thread

I used transparent thread for the first time on a plaid table runner. Took me awhile to figure out that I needed to put it on a vertical spool holder to keep the thread from breaking. Guess it turned out OK but don't think I'll put it on my "must have" list. Anyone use the thread?

I've used miles and miles of invisible thread for raw edge applique. The secret is to keep the thread under a slight amount of tension as it comes off the spool. If you feed it off the top of the spool that gives it a chance to get loose and unruly.

i don't put what is basically lightweight fishing line thru my expensive computer machine... i have seen other machines that showed a 'cut' line in the finish of the machine...if it cuts thru tempered metal finishes, i don't want it inside the machine... i do not put it in any of my machines, including the longarm...don't care how many people have been using it, it's too hard to be pulling across expensive machine parts... and besides, do you really want that hard scratchy feel to a quilt... or plastic on a table runner that you cannot now use for a hot dish?

Don't use, although I can see where you might want to use it for certain things...I don't want to tempt fate!

Thanks for the heads up. I might try it sometime.

Superior threads sells Monopoly which is actually a polyester. The 'fishing line' type is nylon- it can get hot and melt. Check out Superior thread info on their site

Me too, don't like it at all!

Monody works. Nylon doesn't, and nylon breaks down, so some say. A thread net helps keep not only monopoly but other "nonstandard threads" from flying off the spool, winding around the spool holder, ruining your tension, and hen breaking. But I have no computerized machines so worry less. You do need to be careful and keep the speed as constant as possible, avoiding jerks.
