How to gift wrap king size quilt?
Have finished a king double wedding ring quilt for my grandson and wife-to-be and will be hand carrying to the wedding. It is too large for the x-large gift bags so am looking for some "creative" way to wrap, etc. Would love to hear how other quilters present large wedding quilts.

I have never gifted a quilt this large but I would think of putting into a container that they can then use for when they set up housekeeping.

I would probably opt to make a large pillow case to hold the quilt, perhaps out of remnants of the quilt's fabrics. (This could come in handy later if repairs need to be made to the quilt.) I would fold the quilt especially carefully to fit inside the pillowcase. There are some websites that show decorative ways to fold a quilt, including folding on the bias (which reduces stress on the fibers).
Another option would be to find an empty cardboard fabric roll for decorator fabrics (perhaps from JoAnn's?), fold and roll the quilt on that, and make a decorative cover for the roll. I think that would be harder to do, though, plus the roll would be quite long and possibly difficult to fit into a car. |
She rolled hers and tucked it in a crate with color catchers:

How about a clothes hamper?

I would make matching pillow cases to put the quilt in.

I wrap them in muslin and use 2.5" strips as ribbon. I leave the edges raw, it looks cute and homey.

I would make a pillow case type bag, and tell them it can be used to store the quilt in it when not in use.

I vote for pillowcase for wrapping.

If you truly want a box a good department store that sells winter coats or furs may have one large enough. If not, you could purchase a plain box at the post office or thru a moving company to wrap it in. If the box has writing on it, you can check to see if it is a box made with the 1" overlap on the inside side. IF it is, it's pretty easy to un assemble it and turn the box inside out putting the plain side on the outside and the writing on the inside. I've done that trick many times.
