Flexible hoop for aprons
I am looking for flexible hoops, like the ones used in the fifties to make aprons. Any suggestions?
Thank you, Jo Ann Ivey |
for what it's worth I've seen them recently but don't remember where :)
That was the first home-ec project, I think I used dark green fabric. |
I searched for flexible apron hoops and found several websites. This is a picture of one https://images.search.yahoo.com/sear...g&action=click
I had forgotten about those things and didn't know they were still around. |
what is this? I'm confused.

It's a piece of boning about 1/2" wide that has been formed into a loose curve. The apron looks similar to a large napkin with a hem wide enough on one side to let the boning slide through. To launder, slip the hoop out of the fabric. Occasionally, I will see one in a thrift store, still in it's plastic bag. I just looked through my apron patterns, thinking I have one, but could not find it.

They were called Curvet, if that helps in your search

Does that thing go around your waist or what?

Wow, that is a blast from the past. An apron using that curved piece was my first home ec projects many years ago. That started this whole crazy "sewing" thing. What a memory. Thanks.

I've been sewing for 55 years and never heard of this!

I saw them in a catalog that came not to long ago. May have been Nancy's or Annies. Couldn't believe they were still around.
