Floating Islands

I saw this dessert on British Baking Show and it's been on my mind! I think it will taste heavenly. I have never made it before. It's poached meringue in custard. Anyone ever made it? Eaten it?

I had this dessert at a black tie affair, dinner before the event. It was delicious, never had anything like it. I never thought to look up the recipe it seemed so far out of my cooking league. I have not seen it on any menu in years.

Used to have this dessert occasionally as a child; Mom made it for us. It wasn't until I had my Ancestry DNA done 2 years ago that I discovered how dramatically I am From Great Britain/Scotland that I realized how many parts of my life and vocabulary feature that link. Very strange indeed!

When I was in Paris they had something called "Floating Eggs" (at least that was the translation on the menu). It sounds like something similar. I was delicious!

My ancestry showed I am mostly Irish and Native American. Two extremes all jumble together.

My mother used to make "floating islands" using applesauce and meringues. Hadn't thought of that in 70 years.

My mother used to make Floating Islands too. It always looked like an involved recipe, but they were exquisite. I never took the time to do it myself. Hers were meringue with custard inside.
