Batting for Placemats
What kind of batting do you use when making placemats? If you use Warm and Natural, do you preshrunk it? Thanks for your suggestions.

Pellon fleece interfacing. It's perfect for any table toppers. Sold with the interfacing and available in fusible and non fusible. I like the non. Enough loft so quilting shows, but not enough to look like blanket on the table. I don't prewash it because it's a poly product and it stays flat after laundering.

I buy the rolls of Warm and Natural so that's what ends up in my place mats. I have used just a single layer but the last place mats I made I doubled up and I liked the extra thickness better. I've never preshrunk the batting.

i use whatever thin batting i have

Do you know the number on the Pellon interfacing?

I went w/Warm and White on the place mats I am making because I was concerned if a hot plate was sat on the mat the poly might kind of melt. Probably wouldn't but I decided not to take a chance since I am gifting them. And no I did not preshrink the batting or the fabric so I guess they can shrink together.

I use whatever cotton batting I have on hand. I don't use poly batting for place mats or for table runners.

I use Warm and White trims from my quilts. I purchase the queen size roll from J's and always seem to trim off placemat widths. It wrinkles a little but that just adds texture.
