Pellon fleece interfacing. It's perfect for any table toppers. Sold with the interfacing and available in fusible and non fusible. I like the non. Enough loft so quilting shows, but not enough to look like blanket on the table. I don't prewash it because it's a poly product and it stays flat after laundering.

I buy the rolls of Warm and Natural so that's what ends up in my place mats. I have used just a single layer but the last place mats I made I doubled up and I liked the extra thickness better. I've never preshrunk the batting.

I went w/Warm and White on the place mats I am making because I was concerned if a hot plate was sat on the mat the poly might kind of melt. Probably wouldn't but I decided not to take a chance since I am gifting them. And no I did not preshrink the batting or the fabric so I guess they can shrink together.
