Big Cone or Normal Spool

There is another post about thread stands just now, and it has me thinking. I have never bought thread on a cone, but I have thought about it more times than I care to admit. I imagine it feels great to not worry about running out of thread. However, what if I get a cone of thread and my machine does not like it. Thousands of yards is a lot not to like.

Opinions?

I don't use cones either. I have heard about setting a coffee mug behind your machine to allow the cone to move.

Simple enough ..... buy the same kind of thread that you have used in a conventional spool.
It would be the same, so there should be no question as to whether you would like it.

I love using cones... you never have to worry about running out. I use King Tut and Masterpiece by Alex Anderson. I have never had a problem with my machine not liking it.

I only use cones for piecing, grey, beige, white, black & ivory. My Baby Lock & Elna both like it.

I use cones almost exclusively, now. I like not running out of thread. Fortunately, my machine likes all thread

I buy the cones because the cost of thread is cheaper that way. My machines (2 Brothers, A Janome, Nolting and Singer) aren't picky. Connecting threads small cones are as good as Aurofil to me. I get the same amount of lint from both and the Connecting threads is way cheaper in cost and is a 50 weight. I do use Glide for quilting and then I use what is left on the bobbins to sew the binding.

I buy cones to use on my LA from Connecting Threads and also use it with my sewing machines to piece or sew.

when I use a cone, I put it in a coffee cup and run the thread through the end of a paperclip (taped to my machine behind where a spool would go) and then run it through my machine loops and such. Works good.

The only time I buy a spool is if I need a special color otherwise I use Connecting Threads cones in white, beige, black, gray, and surprisingly, red.
