Ideas for almost finished project...
1 Attachment(s)
I’ve finished my first big foundation piecing project but now I’m trying to decide what colour sashing/border round the edge. I think it needs a 2 inch border and then binding to ‘finish it’. What do you think?
Im also not sure how to quilt it. I can only do fairly basic quilting techniques (I have just learnt some simple FMQ and walking foot techniques but am not confident. It will be a wall hanging so won’t need to stand up to lots of washing and ‘usage’ What would you do? |
Your quilt is amazing. I would sash it with a pale color...white, pale blue..
lay fabrics out and 'audition' colors. The right one will 'speak' to you. |
I haven't a clue. I just wanted to say that this is fantastic!
Is there a pattern for this? If so, please share! |
I really enjoy paper piecing projects. I think yours is very nice and I like the whimsey of the houses. I think I would consider white for the border. I think your idea of 2 inches is a good proportion. I would use scraps of the fabrics you used to make a multi-colored binding. Just cut them on the diagonal and use varied lengths. When I have done this, I work by pinning the binding on the the picture as I go so that I don't hit a corner with a seam in the binding-that creates a "problem". As for quilting, I would keep it simple such as an echo around each of the major elements in each square. Please show us us your quilt when you finish it.

I like the idea of a multi-coloured binding quilter purple dog - not sure if I am good enough to do that yet but I will give it some real thought [h=2][/h] |
It's really cute! If you use the grass green, it will look funny on the sky and the sky blue will look funny on the grass. I might put a "frame" on it in dark wood grain or black. As for quilting, I would stitch n the ditch around all the pictures.

Thanks for posting your picture! Wonderful pattern and you are really doing it justice! I just went to her site and was amazed with other patterns!
The expressions she put on her animal faces are incredible! Look at the Labrador's face! |
What a fun quilt! I like the angles -- the whole thing, including your fabric choices just bring a smile to my face!

So very cute! Love the little appliques. Great touch!
I like the yellow on the one house. How about that for a narrow inner border? Just a wild suggestion. |
I think I would use a dark color as a border, just to keep all that action confined! You did a great job! As far as quilting, again , because your piecing is so intricate, I would not want to distract from it, just simple outlines or straight lines where needed to lock in spaces.......
