march---hmmmm... so the march hare was a crazy, breeding fool?! and of course, he was hopeful he would find a crazy, breeding hare-ess. love puns! but i doubt he managed straight lines. my yard suggests, however, that the rabbits arrive in hordes. my cat is 20 this year. i suspect any rabbit hunting he'll do will be for the newly born, as he is slower. he doesn't appear rickety yet and that spurs the hope i've calculated his age incorrectly and i will be blessed with the gift of more years in his love. we had a 21 year old cat who spent his final year in a suite of rooms accessed only by people and a younger simon. the dogs were barred as they were too rambunctious and ate inappropriate things. one day when i went up to visit mel i noticed an extra tidbit next to mel's food dish. simon had brought him half a rabbit as a special treat. those who don't know cats might scoff at the concept of their humanity and compassion, but many a chilly night i would find the 2 sharing warmth and companionship, when simon for sure could have been sleeping with much warmer people. but he stayed with his brother and friend. after mel's passing, simon took a stronger interest in being my cat as opposed to being the family cat. he still checked upstairs to be sure all was well but there were no more bowls of food, or litter boxes. i loved that simon took care of his brother in his cat way. i was the new receiver of caught prey and delicacies. there haven't been many this past year and that, too, tells me simon is winding down. his best cat friend, toby, passed last week. so this spring i'm having a little trouble dealing with the new as i am somewhat preoccupied with the old. thank goodness i still see myself as 23, even if i've had to draw the image on the bathroom mirrors. it is indelibly in my mind.

Maybe I am already working on the March challenge. The moving forward part is that I have become very interested in modern quilting, improv quilting, original quilts. The photo is my first attempt at improv quilting. I think solids are usually used, but I have very few solids and almost none in my scraps, so I am making do. I think these are about as crazy and I can come up with, at least for now.

Dotty, yes, the embellisher is a felting machine. I bought a Baby Lock Embellisher about 6 years ago and have never utilized it way I should have, so I am challenging myself to make something every month with it. I am making a very contemporary cuff bracelet for one of my girls right now. I like the Victorian look to the first one.

Judy, (Goldendog) what a wonderful opportunity. I hope you have lots to share with us in the months to come. Polly

Looks great to me girl! You are marching forward! And crazy is good... I rarely use many solids and think what you have going is awesome. Matter of fact you could throw a little border between those blocks and do a 'cut and insert' of some more oddball fabrics for more crazy--can't wait to see what decisions you make.....

Boy do I know about THAT situation! You should see when we move house. I merrily stuff scraps and strips twixt the spice bottles, between the plates, in the glasses, in all the pots and pans, and i delicately carpet all the tops of every box where there is a half an inch of space with more leftovers........I never go anywhere without my stash and the leftover scraps. There will be some great arty insanity created out of your leftovers Jolo and I am looking forward to seeing some of them including that pineapple!

Nancia--Here is a big virtual hug! And a scratch under the chin for your elderly companion.....

I sense a pile of lovely memories here and hope some turn into some great art works.

It's always great to spot the first crocus. The newscasters were talking about this on tv tonight and several watchers sent in photos. So, when the lingering snows make us crazy, a pop of spring brings us hope. Spring is just around the corner.

Dotty, what a great idea
nancia, i just loved your story. Only us true kitty lovers understand.
Im getting over pnemonia, and my 2 1/2 yo russian blue zoey has been my constant companion. Even though ive had 10 operations since i got her, shed come and visit. This time, she never left my side. Yrs ago, as out maine coone was dying, our lab would bring her mouthfuls of food. Amazing how they take care of each other.
