Yes, if we all made one little quilt, it would be awesome.

that would be a great secondary purpose of this group! anyone who wants to participate in the aaqi challenge needs to go to their website and read the rules. it would be terrific. we have the fun of seeing everyone's art work and then have the higher purpose of donating it! as you may have guessed, i'm all for it!

I don't know if this is really a group. I don't think the "challenges" thread creates much as much cohesion as a swap.
I used to do a lot of the swaps but am focusing more on my own work now. The aaqi gives more motivation. And I did meet a new buddy "stuck in Philly"!!

i don't see why we can't be a group if we want to be! we could have a leader of the month, that way everyone gets to feel really involved and no one person is 'in charge'. how about instead of a theme, we concentrate on factions of art quilts, color, texture, painting, threadwork, any number of things.
i heard there's a train that goes from here to there and back again, so nyc isn't impossible to get to, and a person might could get unstuck, for a day!:)

I love the idea of seeing everyone's art work each month.......whether it goes to aaqi or just for stretching our personal creativity and sharing with everyone. It all sounds good to me.

Can we have the July theme? It is too late for me to start something in June, and with the holiday coming and company, there just isn't time for me.
Also, I guess I didn't read about the start of this challenge really well. Are we supposed to do just a fabric collage design? To me, but that is just me, an art quilt would have things like people, houses, trees, flowers, etc. Is it just supposed to be a mixed media?
Thanks so much for answering my question.

Can anyone tell me where to find the rules, etc.? It sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't want to break any rules. Can you please post a link?

This Challenge was just started to spur ideas and interest in trying new things. I often send my challenges onto aaqi.

I love swaps too but I am in south america and to swap costs me $5 per block for postage back to the US and about the same for anyone stuck with me as a partner. :)

Well I think you are right about the holidays and possible conflicts and the newest theme will be posted Sat 23rd.

These 'art' quilts can be about anything........

I think this is more about having all of us stay both within our comfort zones and yet also stretching just a bit beyond into new techniques, colors, ways of looking at a favorite subject, etc. The idea of a challenge was to give a few 'guidlines' to try and work within and then take your ideas of what you love and and expressing it in fabric.

And anytime anyone would like to suggest ideas and themes I am all agog! I would love for this to be collaborative and helping us all to learn and grow a little.
