And now I need to get back to the "line-up" of projects waiting for me! Thanks for the inspiration on the challenge, DH even noticed the Schwarz/Rot/Gold colours on his mug rug!

Hey, who wants to make curtains? Or knit a scarf and toque (hat for those of you not familiar with the term) set? The more the merrier. |

And ...... perhaps you might like to complete your ensemble and make a set of these ............ |
Patticake - lovely fresh colours, looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.
Thimblebug - you've done a great job combining the Canadian and German themes. Beer had to come into it sooner or later! My husband and son are great fans of German wheat beers. Meanwhile... nearly finished the daffodil, then I'm going to make a wall hanging to match the quilt before I make the next block. I'm on a bit of a sewing marathon here. |
Good for you Muv. Looking forward to seeing more progress pics. I'm almost finished my centre maple leaf. I will wash it and hope the pencil lines come out but I may just add white cross stitching to the outer sides anyway so my centre is not off-white while the rest of my blocks are white. I am winging it, as you can tell. Adding a cross stitch centre to a fabric quilt is definitely new to me and I hope it works.
Seeing progress others have made is keeping me motivated. Thanks all. |
QuiltE, I did make those coasters awhile back too, but don't really care for them. It always feels like something is "stuck" onto my glass :D

My friend, who is not a member of this board, nor a quilter, has joined our challenge. She is making herself a pair of Canada Day shorts. Not sure if I'll be able to convince her to allow me to post a photo ever but it's cool that she is playing along.
I am ordering the Oh Canada moose fabric plus several others in the line today. I save $2.50 per meter by pre-ordering and they don't charge the credit card until the items fully ship so it is a win-win. May have to issue another patriotic challenge next year to make sure i use it. :) |
Muv, what a marvelous idea
Dear Muv,
I have shied away from stems for all the other reasons. Now I feel like I could quilt a garden of posies all with STEMS!! Thank you so very much and right now it's probably time for a spot o'tea. Sincerely LinC

That moose fabric is a laugh - who is going to buy it first? I want to see it in a quilt.
Jenniky - don't give up on a quilt because of stems! Very briefly, here's the method:- Fold and iron the material on the diagonal. Then cut the folded material through both thicknesses. For these stems I am cutting half an inch from the fold. Then lay the strip, still folded, on the backing material and pin in position. Have the end with the selvedge at the bottom of the stem. Then stitch one eighth of an inch from the raw edges. Next, fold the stem over and iron into place so the stitching and raw edges are covered, then stitch down the folded edge by hand. The stem will be three eighths of an inch thick. The raw edges at the top of the stem will be covered by the applique flower. |
I've been wanting to do a lap quilt for the Canadian branch of Quilts of Valour, probably using that gorgeous Oh Canada line of Northcott fabrics ... still in the "I have an idea" stage!!

I have done my exercises for rehab and spent the rest of the morning reading all these great ideas. I took a little trip to my favourite quilt store in Campbellford, ON and bought my fabrics for what I hope is an unique idea. Because we boat on the St. Lawrence and are moving the boat to the Thousand Islands. My design will incorporate both Canada and the US in addition to the making of my Underground Railroad Quilt. Must dash so I can get it started. Will post pics by tonight.
