He loved it and was very proud to eat what he'd made.
our son watched butter being made with an electric mixer on tv when he was about 4 years old. When the show was over, he went to the kitchen and got the mixer and beaters out of the drawer.

For Vanilla extract I use vodka and whole vanilla beans.
You take a 12 ounce bottle, add 3 whole vanilla beans (split lengthwise but leave the ends), cover with vodka, shake well and place in a dark spot for about 4 weeks. Shake it at least twice a week.
I have heard some people use bourbon in place of the vodka.

Coconut extract
4 ounces of vodka and 1/3 cup freshly grated coconut. Place in a 1 cup jatr for 7 days, shaking everyday. Strain out solids and store the extract in a dark place for up to a year.

here are some recipes for extracts:

An inexpensive brand of vodka will do, I use Smirnoff.

We made butter in a jar at summer camp for years. Just passed it around so all the kids got to shake, then enjoyed it on biscuits we baked on an open fire.

I've made butter in my vitamix with heavy cream and a pinch of salt.
