Spicy no bake crackers
1 box saltines
1 1/4 cups of oil 1 to 2 Tblsp. red pepper flakes depending on how hot you like it. 1 1/2 tsp. garlic powder (optional) 3 Tblsp. or 1 pkg of hidden valley ranch dry mix. I buy mine by the jar. Mix the last 4 ingredients in a food processor/magic bullet/blender Pour mixture in a bowl with a lid. Add crackers put lid on bowl turn bowl for appoxamently 3 min. Or until crackers are covered with oil mixture. Let stand overnight this way the oil mix will soak into the crackers. Enjoy with dip, cheese, seafood salad or just by themselves. WARNING the heat creeps up on you. |
Do the the crackers not go soggy, without some heat to dry them out again?
|
Amazingly enough they do not get soggy. They stay crisp.
This was my thought too so I just had to try these. |
I make these all the time. Have some on the counter top right now. But I have not used garlic powder. Salty enough, might try next. Love em!!!!!!
|
Also I call them Fire Crackers !!!

super made with oyster crackers
|
I've only done this with oyster crackers. Never thought of using saltines. Think I'll have to give it a try.

I love these crackers! They are excellent for meatloaf or chicken fried steak. Yum yum making myself hungury.
|
Do you use these as the bread replacement in your meatloaf? That would be a wonderful addition. I have always used oatmeal (as my mother does) but love the idea of a spicy cracker. Will plan on making them for movie night this weekend and next time I make meatloaf (monthly menu item) I will add these crackers. Thank you both, two ideas in one.
