I have an industrial Singer which will sew through 13 layers. It was second hand when I bought it in 1975. I used it for 25 years for making loose overs for my clients!

I have a basket just outside the kitchen door and whenever I have a few moments I cut out using the kitchen counter - its a much better height for cutting. Just doing a little bit at a time suits me.
