I used a flannel sheet for the batting and it was super warm and a nice weight without being extremely heavy. Flannel sheets are also inexpensive and available most everywhere.

If all else fails you might try a thrift shop/flea market for actual fatigues. These would be the exact colors you need. Many times you can find the fatigues inexpensively.
