I cut mine about 1/3 of the way across the quilt...
I cut mine about 1/3 of the way across the quilt and added a plain strip of fabric in a coordinating color to get it longer.
I liked it so much I did another one in baby size and appliqued flowers...

As Peckish said, starch it until it pretty much becomes card stock and the bias won't be a problem. You couldn't stretch the edges of my HST with a ratchet strap.
