Tums or Pepto Bismol are fast acting but, for long term, if it keeps happening, try an acid reducer. The reducer cuts down on the amount of acid whereas an antacid takes care of the immediate problem?? Now that I've switched over to the acid reducer, one a night, I'm able to sleep on my back without that acid reflux thingy happening.
