I just finished my first log cabin quilt. I made it for my DH. His favorite color is black. I put a lot of thought of how to make a black quilt and finally settled on log cabin. I wanted something for the center square other than black, but yet wouldn't stick out. I asked him if he had a 2nd favorite color. It was blue. So I found a dark blue batik and used it for the center square and for the backing.

Last night DH was joking about his black and blue quilt and said it sounded like a black eye. So I named the quilt Mouse.

In police shows and detective stories, they call a black eye a "mouse." e.g. "Where'd you get the mouse?"

I did the mq myself. I looked at my aunt's handmade log cabin and copied her quilting pattern, which was very easy to do with a walking foot.
