I just finished my first log cabin quilt. I made it for my DH. His favorite color is black. I put a lot of thought of how to make a black quilt and finally settled on log cabin. I wanted something for the center square other than black, but yet wouldn't stick out. I asked him if he had a 2nd favorite color. It was blue. So I found a dark blue batik and used it for the center square and for the backing.

Last night DH was joking about his black and blue quilt and said it sounded like a black eye. So I named the quilt Mouse.

In police shows and detective stories, they call a black eye a "mouse." e.g. "Where'd you get the mouse?"

I did the mq myself. I looked at my aunt's handmade log cabin and copied her quilting pattern, which was very easy to do with a walking foot.

I love all log cabins, but this is the first one I've seen in black and white. Beautiful! You have set a new standard -- and to think you designed the colors yourself. This is a beautiful quilt. Your husband must be thrilled with this gift.

The Log Cabin is my favorite block and I think your hubby's quilt is beautiful. I would love to see a close up of a block if you happen to get time.

    Thanks! Pat

I quilted the entire top with a charcoal gray thread.
