My MIL has been doing that to DH for his entire life. When he was a boy, he would spend his meager allowance on gifts for her, and EVERY time, she would say - "What do I need THAT for", or "I can't use that, you keep it", etc - you get the picture. And this to a 7 year old. He's in his 50's now and she's still doing it to both of us now. We often get back things we have given her, sooooo, I just give her things I want for myself, knowing that eventually (usually 2 years), I will get it back unopened/unused. I know it hurts, but they are the ones who are losing out. Your quilt is beautiful - don't let your dad discourage your obvious talent. Hugs.
