I'm an old woman (will be 72 in August) and I quilt. I quilt because I love it and because I now have the time to do it, not because I'm old. When I was young I sewed clothes for myself and my two daughters. I was a teacher and when I wasn't planning lessons, grading papers, preparing visual aides, driving children to ball practices, dancing lessons, and the rest of the stuff that moms do, I was volunteering at the church or taking care of my home. Now, I quilt when I want to and I keep house when I want to, or drop everything and hit the road with my retired DH; but mostly I quilt. You can tell your "friend" that he's got a lot to learn about "being old."
