I have laminate now. I had vinyl, the nice cushion type, and if anything sits in one position very long, it dents. Also certain items with "rubber feet" leaves marks, which so far I have not been able to remove. My laminate is what is called a "floating floor" and it has some cushioning to it. I love it and would do it again. I still have 3 rooms to remove the carpet and put laminate in. So easy to take care of. The only place I use vinyl now is in the bathrooms. Hope this helps.
