if you are feeling froggy, you can use a needle nose pair of pliers and re-bend the end. It would make the tension a bit higher but still functional. Move the metal slowly and it should not break.

Also, on most of mine like that, the spring actually has three anchor holes it can go into so you could reduce the tension back down that way.
