I should finish the story about the steam punk looking machine. I went camping and a man wearing a top hat bought it. He totally fell in love with it. I had a piece of plastic over the hole the slide plates cover - velcro fastened the plastic on to the wood base and you could see the stitches as they formed. Top Hat wanted to let kids see the stitches being made. I'm glad that one got a good home. So many machines that look like that get repainted only to lose their character. I simply cleaned it, made sure it sewed and put a good build up of shellac on the base until it was nice and smooth. It looks terrible but it does appeal to some people. He loved the refurbish decals, roughness and all.
