I know what you mean about holding your breath when changing the bobbin case tension. All my life I have heard not to mess with that screw until all other avenues had been exhausted. This was me too. Did NOT want to mess with bobbin tension. ever.
But then, I decided I wanted to try 'bobbin work'. So I bought a second bobbin case. I put a pink stripe on it with fingernail polish, so I wouldn't mix them up.
Now I can use all kinds of decorative threads (different weights, different fibers, metalics, even yarns) & change the bobbin tension without fear.
My original bobbin case never gets adjusted. It is still factory set. (but I put a dot on it too, just in case I ever do have to adjust it). No more fear...yay!
