I am part of a group called Eager Hands. Most of the ladies are from my church. We are fortunate to meet in the basement of one of the members who is almost 81. She has sewing machines, cutting tables, and a 'sandwiching/tying' table. The quilts are given to charity and the fabric is all donated. Even some of the batting is donated! Last spring, we celebrated our 3000th quilt to Salvation Army. The group meets every Tuesday morning. I am a substitute teacher so I go and help whenever I am available. We help each other through the good and bad times.

My best friend, sister, sister in law, 2 cousins and a cousin in law and I started getting together on Tuesdays evenings since sometime in the 90's. We have gone to Paducah, Nashville, and lots of other places. We take classes together. It has been a life saver for all of us. We call it Stitch N Bitch Night. Lots of food and strong friendship.. I moved away 11 years ago, but still go to some sew ins when they have an all day one.. I plan to rejoin when we get moved back up there. I sure miss my girls. It is the greatest therapy you can get. Keep it up

We have a group who meet at my house twice a month for quilting and laughter and talking and show and tell. We call it our sanity days.

I am blessed to have a quilting buddy... we meet 3-4 times a month at one of our homes... We bring leftovers or order out for lunch. Sometimes we put something in the crockpot and the DHs come for supper. It is such a great day. Of course, we call it our "work days." We can hardly wait until our third quilting friend retires so she can come too! If you can, please meet with other quilters... you won't regret it!!

If fact, I'll bet any one of us could meet with any of these groups and feel as if we'd known them forever!!!

I belong to a group that meets every other Thursday. It is so much less expensive than a surink! LOL

Where are you located - anywhere around Morgan county, Tenn? or Picayune, Miss.? My sister and her friends are in Miss. and I know that they would love to have you - Here in Tenn, we are in a very small local community close to Big South Fork National Forest. We would all certainly welcome you anytime.

Yes! We just met for the first time at the great community room a the retirement village where one of our friends lives. It was great - lots of light, a full kitchen, and lot of tables - and we had the best time together!

Your post brought tears to my eyes. This is what "community" means, whether an entire city, a neighborhood, or a group of women whose shared interests bring them together! Congratulations on your "community" and thanks for sharing your story.
