when we put down laminate flooring down, I read that to avoid the scratches from the chairs, buy the rubber wheels.
these are the ones I bought for mine. you just have to see what size the stem is so you get the right ones. I've been using mine for at least 6 months now and not 1 scratch.
Good Luck!

I myself would stay away from hardwood, because it definitely scratches. I have it in living room, dining room and kitchen. I have the vinyl snap together in my quilt room for last 12 years and it is great and easy to clean.
Thanks to all of you so much for your thoughtful suggestions.
After much discussion with dh, we have decided to go with hardwood.
We will match the other hardwood he already laid on the first floor.
More work on his part, but he is very willing to do it. And I know it will look great
I think I will buy either a sisal or indoor/outdoor rug to place beneath my rolling chairs.
I will try to remember to post before and after pics too!
Thanks again so much for weighing in

This has been interesting as I am going to be moving this summer and the 3 homes I am interested in will all need new floors. I have some rooms now with wood floors and vowed never again - really hard for me to maintain and costly.
I am going to be looking at carpeting and laminate wood planks - I have seen these and they are beautiful. I am definitely watching this thread!

Don't do carpet. Sticks pens and needles are constantly getting into them and you will find your self down on your knees to find them. Strings of thread is harder to get off from carpet. I would do ceramic tiles. Easy to clean and very durable and they have lots of choices even some that look like wood!
