I tried to find one near me but, I was not sucessful. I want to do a retreat badly. I got the idea from the Elm Creek Quilter books and I thought I would see if there actually is Quilter camps or retreats. To my surprise there were! I want to go to one but I want to find one close for my first one. I live in New Jersey so I am still looking. Do you have any recommendations?

Suzanne, why not organize your own. Find a facility, estimate costs, talk to quilting friends, make reservations. You can do it. It is just like planning a party that lasts several days. Some of the place that I have been we provide our own meals. Usually assign a few people per meal time. They do cooking and clean up. Really is easy. Usually meals are very simple: sandwiches, cereal, bisquits and sausage, baked potatoes, tacos, hot dogs. Sometimes we plan to "go into town" for dinner one night.

texas granny.Thank you for letting me know but I would rather it be quilting, the whole fun of watching and learning from other quilters. I am in the process of getting on the Melissa's list to get notified of vacancies in quilting. Maybe we will run into each other soon. I love that centre.

Debbie I said you could quilt it would give you a chance to meet other ladies that hose there own quilt retreats at the centre.
I have had friend come that don't emb but quilt. I might do some quilting myself after I do some emb. I do hope we can meet some time and i eill Tell Melissa that we have spoken on line. Bobbie

I went to a Quilt and Fiber Art Extravaganza last weekend, Friday through Sunday. They had at least 20 classes you could sign up for as well as about 60 vendors. There were over 600 quilts displayed. My classes ran from 10 am - 9 pm. Mary Ann Fons was the guest speaker Saturday morning. I shared a room with a friend I met through our LQS, although she lives over an hour away from me. It was a wonderful weekend and we all learned a lot! They will have the second annual one next year in Hickory, NC again. Check out the link to this years event: www.quiltandfiberart.com

This is a great way to hold a retreat. My group rents the fellowship hall of a local church for a Friday & Saturday retreat. It is large and has plenty of tables for everyone and really good lighting. We are there from 9am to 9pm, and then go home to sleep in our own beds. The hall has a full kitchen, so we ask everyone to bring food to share. There is usually so much to eat that we could feed an army. Our only cost is the fee for the building, so each person pays a nominal amount

I went to a church retreat, I brought hand sewing project with me. but that was my very first retreat and we had so much fun. there was games, food, they had a zip line and a giant sewing I could not do, but I sewed during that time. and it was the most fun I have had in a very long time. just the constant laughter was wonderful. the church paid my way. we left thursday and got back sauterday. I have never been to a sewing retreat, and probaley wont ever be able to afford to go to one. but I sure do look forwared to the next church one. God bless. Penny

Does the left/right game pertain to quilting stories? I have a few Christmas stories and some everyday ones. I would love to have a quilt story to read at our retreat. My group really liked the Christmas ones.
