A honey bun is 1.5" strips, 40 to a roll.
I think I figured that up a bit ago, but it is pretty quick to do - - 1.5" x 40 x 40" = a strip at 1600 x 1.5"
step 2 - - 800" x 2.5"
step 3 - - 400" x 4.5"
step 4 - - 200" x 8.5"
step 5 - - 100" x 16.5"
step 6 - - 50" x 32.5"

This is the size that would make a fine baby quilt, but the strips would be going vertically, rather than across the quilt.

While we are discussing this, I just saw another thread where the quilter did a strip block with an Ohio star alternated throughout the quilt. At step 4, where you have 8.5", you could subcut the strips into at least 35 - 8.5" squares ... you could alternate the strip direction every other block, and make the strips even scrappier ... the size would be 5 squares by 7 squares or 40" x 56" ...
just an idea <g> <wave>
WOW - I like this idea. I'm going to try it either tonight or tomorrow. After I get the top done I'll try to post a picture. Thanks for a great idea.

OMAK - as usual you're the best. Thanks.

I just finished a second one and it only took 3 hrs. to do. Wish I had bought more when WM had them for $10.00 on clearance but they are all gone now. I guess I could make my own.

I am new to quilting. Have made a few simple quilts. I love this pattern but I am not familiar with the term "jelly roll". What exactly is this and is it something I make or purchase already made?

I will try to explain it. A jelly roll is stripes of material already cut and rolled up like a cinnamon roll. There are other kinds too but I don't know what they are called. I am just learning what all these different things are myself.

If you read all the postings on this thread, you will have a very good idea of what a jelly roll is, what a honey bun is, and how to make your own!
Also, if you go to the top of this page and click on the "search" link, type "jelly roll" into the box that pops up, you will get a complete (or at least a very thorough) list of every place a jelly roll is mentioned on this site. <wave>

I just did an all over design that kind of goes with the theme of the quilt or the receiver of the quilt. I don't have time to hand quilt things, so I don't have any suggestions. I've also written little messages here and there on the lines. You could compose a special graduation wish for her!
Post a picture if you can! Would love to see how it turns out.

I don't know about anybody else but I am gonna do a SITD with mine and put a border on it. Maybe a lil quilting on the border too.
