I made a quilt from my Great Grandmother's old crocheted hankies and doilies. This was my own idea with not pattern. I used the crocheted edges on the top of the basket and cut the doilies for the flowers in the basket. I also appliqued flower in the top. I really like the way it turned out. Hope my Great Grandmother will not mind that I cut up her work.

I love old handkerchiefs. It was so fun to see all the beautiful quilts made from them. Gorgeous. I have some fun pillows made from hankies.

I once made a tablecloth of old hankies, it is quite beautiful.

I took an old bedspread made out of battenburg lace (the kind that has cutouts in it) and cut it to fit my dining room table, I folded the hankies in half to form a triangle an sewed them to the edge of the cloth overlapping each one by an inch or two. Then I added lace that had spaces to lace ribbon into it across the top of the hankies to hide the seams and add decoration. You can then add several different colors of ribbon or just one color. This is not for everyday use because when you wash it, you have to iron all of the hankies again. I hate to iron if I don't have too. When my kids leave home I will bring this out again.

You can also decorate lamp shades with old hankies and ribbon.

Wow I really like what you did with the hankies. the butterflies are so nice. I have a bunch of hankies from my Mother and now I know what to do with them.

Kseat, that is a gorgeous hanky, basket quilt. I'm sure your Great Grandmother would be very pleased that you used them in this way.

I found a hankie quilt while walking through a quilt show. It is something that I would love to do some day. I really like the pillow hankie picture! And I have enough of grandmothers hankies for that. So pretty and delicate.
