I'm upset...he didn't like it

My MIL has been doing that to DH for his entire life. When he was a boy, he would spend his meager allowance on gifts for her, and EVERY time, she would say - "What do I need THAT for", or "I can't use that, you keep it", etc - you get the picture. And this to a 7 year old. He's in his 50's now and she's still doing it to both of us now. We often get back things we have given her, sooooo, I just give her things I want for myself, knowing that eventually (usually 2 years), I will get it back unopened/unused. I know it hurts, but they are the ones who are losing out. Your quilt is beautiful - don't let your dad discourage your obvious talent. Hugs.

Taiboo,
I am sorry for your pain, noone deserves that.
You took plain pieces of fabric and turned it into a beautiful work of art that you should be proud of. Plenty Patriotic as I see it and I was raised in the Military.
Know what I would do? I would go get it from your father and take pictures of it, front and back for your quilt album. Fold it carefully and pack it into a shipping box and send it to Bethesda, Maryland to the Military hospital there. There are organizations that do that sort of thing and I'm sure there is even someone here that could help you. I KNOW some soldier there would just Love it. Not only would you make a soldier feel better, but I'm guessing that you would feel better too. It would be something that a they would treasure. Knowing that a civilian thought enough of someone they didn't even know to give that to them is an honor that will not be soon forgotten.
Just a thought...

Go get it an hang it in your house so every time he comes by he will have to look at it.
Or at least every time he comes by hang it in the area he will be sitting so he has to see it.
It is very nice and you did a wonderful job.

Share your "hurt" feelings. I made a cute flannel quilt for my granddaughter and she said "I don't want to sleep under that ugly thing".Everybody laughed about it and thought she was sooooooooooooo cute.Don't be to upset my dear, life is like that sometimes and we have to move on.

It is beautiful! I know the feeling! It is such a disappointment when someone doesn't appreciate your gift! I think you should wait until an appropriate time (discretely) regift it to someone he would want to have it.

Having flags, stars and red, white and blue doesn't make it patriotic. It's a lovely work, but patriotic is something that is very subjective, depending on the what the person feels is patriotic.
To the op, Please don't hate me or be hurt. It's lovely, it's wonderfully pieced. I think it was the pinwheels that may have been the off part. They line up and make wonderful subtle stars, but the pinwheels to my eye outshine the stars.
Does that make sense?
