I would quilt it first, you may end up with a raveled mess if you don't :D:D:D

Well, I hate to tell you this, but there is a chance you won't get it out if it is regular pencil. I made the mistake of marking one of my first quilts with pencil and no matter how many times I washed it, the marks never came out. I even tried "erasing" them with a pencil eraser before I washed... no luck.

I would use a fabric eraser, quilt it and then wash it. The fabric eraser will probably not get it all out but will fade it and then washing should finish it off.

I would go ahead and quilt it and wash it after. The pencil marks should come right out. If not, like suggested, re-wash before you dry it and use a little Oxyclean.

I have sprayed hair spray on ink marks and put them in the washing machine immediately and they have come out. That might work for pencil marks also???
