An elementary teacher who worked in one of the worst sections of our city left her keys in the car with the car running --all day. And that's how she found it at the end of her school day. She's still laughing .

I did it when I was young. I took one of my kids to the doctor and locked my keys in the car with the car running. Fortunately I didn't leave the child in there. I had to call my husband at work and he came to unlock the car. I know someone who not only locked her keys but her young child in the car. We are all forgetful sometimes.

I haven't done it (yet) but my daughter did when she was in her 20s - so I don;t think it is age-related - but go ahead and use that if it works for ya!

Not only did I leave the keys in the ignition, I had a spare in my purse and my hubby had a set on him. We borrowed his brother's truck and went to Canada for vacation. I left the keys in the ignition, set the purse on the seat and used hubbys set to get into the camper part. Then I set them on the seat with my purse while we unloaded and promptly locked the door and shut it -- with all three sets of keys in there. Boy did I feel dumb. So you are not a Lone Ranger.

Recently I received this email: If your car has a remote keyless entry and you lock your keys in the car but someone at home has a spare key; you can call that person from a cell phone; hold the phone about a foot from your car door, have the person at home press the unlock button near their mobile phone and the car door will unlock. I didn't know this and once drove 50 miles to rescue my husband who left the engine running and accidentally locked the door. So he owes me one if I ever do it. Thanks for all the stories.

A friend of mine went out to her car hours after going in to work and finding her car running with the keys in it...doors unlocked. She didn't remember leaving the car running, so thought maybe someone saw the keys in it, started it up, and walked away. This was years ago, but still a little funny. Sad. But funny...!

My sister-in-law did the same thing a few years ago. Not only did she feel stupid but she got a ticket for leaving her car running in front of a business downtown.

    You definitly not alone...
Years ago when I was a young mom...I left the car running and my daughter in it. She was only a few months old.
At the time the, you could call the police and they came to help.
I was so upset and even today when I think of it I shudder to think of it.

I have a friend who was running a gift to someone and leaving it on their porch since they were not home and her dog was jumping around in the car and locked it. She had no phone, no coat and was alone and had to find a neighbor to call for help.
