Getting to shop for a new sewing machine - what a lucky girl! You get to to go "test drive" all the models out there. Have fun and let us know what features helped make the decision.

I am looking at the Janome because of the deep throat,11.5 in.I think I could quilt most of what I make if my throat plate were deeper.I am also looking at Viking Sapphire. What do ya'll have for sewing machines?

I have the confident quilter by singer. Martha stewart recommends it. Ha Ha. But I like it. It has a deeper throat then regular. All kinds of quilting stiches over 50! auto threader, has a quilting package with all the attachments included, up and down needle position. I love it and it was only 300.00. I kow the others are better, but I really like this one.

You liking it is all that matters and better is in the mind of the sewer,no one else.

I have a Janome Memory Craft 7000 ------ had it for over 10 yrs now & its the best one I've ever had. The needle up/needle down feature is probably my favorite but I think most all machines have that now. Also, we have a dealership w/an excellent service person there; I couldn't buy anything that I can't get cleaned/serviced/repaired locally. I have friends who have had to send their machines out for servicing & they've been gone for 3 months!! :-( :!: I would walk miles & go get mine first
I know many people are brand loyal & I am somewhat. And while I may love a Bernina, I don't have the bucks for one. (Or the turned up nose - LOL - that my best friend says is required to have one ;)  [least that's how it appears in our community of quilters - they are very clique-ish])
Have fun 'test-driving'!! I think we're all a little green!

Andrea,

I have your center right now. Been looking at it & mulling over possibilities. Went shopping the other day for fabrics & have an idea - but I'm doing a dry run 1st!
