It's no different than spending time on the computer all day on Sunday. As for me, I quilt on Sundays when I want to. We are not living by the rules of the pharisees and sadducees any longer!!! Keep His day Holy and enjoy stitching!!!

Some churches still believe in a policy of not doing any sort of work on Sunday but its not a custom that's observed much any more. Besides that, quilting isn't work, is it? If it worries you, check with your pastor; he's likely to give you better advice on this one than your mother-in-law.

Gosh, I never heard that one before and I am way past collecting social security age so it must be something said within a certain religion or certain area. But since most of my quilting is for the battered women's center and Project Linus kids in hospitals, I doubt that the dear Lord will penalize me too badly. After all, I am helping him on this earth--utilizing the craft he gifted to me.....quilting.

My Grandma told me the same story. However, Sunday is a day to relax, take a ride, be with the family. It is rare that I sew on Sunday.

Monday-Friday I make quilts for customers. Weekends I spend time with my family and work on quilts for them and myself. I consider Sunday to be part of the weekend.

I quilt any time I want to. Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest but I have had jobs when we worked 7 days a week 12 hours a day. I worked because I could not afford to lose my job. Quilting is not work, it is relaxing time.

It is a religious thing and your grandmothers understood it.

Very few people today even attend church or see it as a commandment.
Am I complete Sabbath day observer. No, I am human and have more work to do in this area.

Let me assure you...it's not in the Bible in that form at all. Seems difficult..how do you take out a stitch with your nose?
