Since I am returning to quilting after a long hiatus, I asked a quilter and sales woman in my LQS if there was anything new in rotary cutters or should I stick with my old Olfa. She told me that in her opinion nothing new has improved on Olfa. Mine works fine for me so I have stuck with it.

I have had 3 over the years including a Dritz, Fiskars, and an Olfa. I have to say the Olfa is my favorite and cuts better than either of the other brands.

I have Olfa cutters in 60/45/28mm -I've never had a problem with them at all...

That being said, I bought a Martelli cutter at the Houston festival last November and I absolutely LOVE it.
They make two entirely different cutters for left and right handers (not just a matter of swapping the blade around the handle.)
I'm a lefty!

Joann's has them on their website sale priced at $17.99 (reg $29.99) definitely the time to buy if you are interested!

I love my Martelli cutters. They are ergonomically correct and work well. My second choice is Fiskars.

I also prefer Fiskars. My hands are small and they fit them better. I really love the little finger rotary cutter, it seems to give me better control, but I do wish the blade could be replaced. Although it has stayed sharper longer.

I'm like a lot of others here. I like my Olfa and I use my fiskars for fleece or batting. If I haave a lot of strips to cut, I use my Accuqilt go - love it

Believe it or not it can be the cutting board if it is NOT a "slef sealing" board. I had both problems and found out that the board if it is not "self sealing" can dull blades very quickly.

We have an Olfa 60 and it is great. Clean cuts and easy blade changes.

I have arthritis and use the ergonomic Olfa cutters. I like the lock to keep the blade hidden until you need it. You need to replace your blades more often. As soon as they start skipping etc, it's time for a new blade. I have tried the sharpeners, waste of money as far as I'm concerned, because you just have to keep sharpening them more and more often. Most of us on here have discovered Harbor Freight and their carpet cutter blades. They work just as well as the expensive ones in the stores. I just got a 65mm Olfa at Joanns half price. Love it and should have gotten it sooner. You can cut so many layers at time and don't have the problem of getting hung up on the ruler.
