I'd at least go take a look at it. You might be able to talk them off the price a little. Ask them for the serial number on it and you can look it up online before you decide if you want to make the drive or not.

Might be a 15-91 or 201 - either would be good for quilt piecing. Hard to tell from pic exactly, but for the price, you cannot go wrong. They sell for at least twice that without a cabinet on ebay. Might ask seller to email you the serial number (I'd explain to them it is on front right near bottom of machine - they may not know where to look).
Once you have the serial number you can then identify the year of manufacture & model (15-91, 201, etc) at this site:

Good luck with the decision - let us know how it turns out.

The Singer Serial numbers are really helpful. At least email them for that info right away. That will tell you if it is worth it or not. It is definately not a 15-91. The tensioner is on the front of this machine. A 15-91 has the tensioner in the back. If it is a 201 it would be nice, but I have seen them listed way lower than that..

Ok, I emailed the seller about this machine but haven't received a return email yet.

I also emailed about another machine listed that is near Meridian. Just got pics tonight. It is a Singer 15 and Serial No. indicates it was birthed on March 9, 1949! Seller asking $75 and it's in a good looking cabinet from what I can tell. Is there a way to tell if it is a 15-91 or another type of 15. Looks very much like my special Freebie 15-91 I just got but I didn't get a case or cabinet with mine. She also says she has a "older" Singer "iron base" machine in her storage unit. Hmmm, a treadle maybe?? She's sending pics tomorrow.

Well, the seller responded to my email. I looked up the Serial No. and it IS a 66, Lot of 10,000, July 12, 1938!!

What'cha think?
