I am very sad that your children are hurting you.

It is your life, your space and you can do anything you want with it. Enjoy your hobbies.

If it were my children, I would say something to stop their criticism; but I cannot write that something on this board.

See, this makes me a little irate. You're and adult and what you want to do with your time and your money is your business and not theirs. If you complained or went on about their hobbies/interests/how they spend their money they would tell you to back off in a heartbeat. I say tell them to back off.

BTW, I see you were raised in western Maryland (and WV). I went to Frostburg State College for 1yr (67-68) before I decided I didn't want to spend another winter there and headed south to Florida to nursing school. My cousin graduated from Beall High School.

do not pay any attention to them. My grandmother tosed out all ...yes I sad all of the pictures she had of everyone. Just put them on the burn pile. Now everyone wish they had those family pictures back.

Just keep in the back of your mind someday when they grow up( maybe lol ) they may want to sew....

IF you are keeping up with your other bills - - - and are not overloaded with debt -

and you can still move about in your house/home - - -

and what you are doing is not costing them any out-of-pocket expense (except for possible inheritance money) - - -

and it isn't hurting any one else - - -

Then I think one is entitled to indulge in one's hobbies/passions.

But if, for example, one is buying fabric and sewing supplies and NOT taking care of one's health - then perhaps one needs to re-evaluate one's priorities.

Just saying - - -

I have advised my kids that there IS value in some of the fabric I've acquired. It's up to them to mine it, if they so choose.

My kids would never dare do something like that. They might comment ONCE on it but then I would ask them if they believe I should have given them the money I spent on fabric that makes me happy.

And I would have waited quietly while they thought that over. And then I would have thought it over and might not have liked the answer. I raised them to go out on their own, now I'm on MY own and happy enough with my life and my hobbys.

Everyone tells me how much fabric I have (like I didn't know it) and I buy more. It gives me joy and dreams. I am not doing without and I am paying all my bills on time. After being widowed twice, I keep busy and looking forward with the plans for quilts.

It makes me sad when I hear of someone being hurt by their children's remarks. First of all, it is your hobby and unless it is hurting you or someone else, it is really none of their business. You do not look like you are about to kick the bucket, so unless they are worried about what they will have to do with all your stuff when you are gone, it should not affect their lives in anyway-unless you felt good hearted and made them a quilt with that stash they want you to do away with.

Just a thought!
Tell them to shut it. Period, end of sentence.

You are their mother and anything you owed to them has long since been paid. For them to sass you like that is unacceptable, and you owe them no explanations, justifications or actions regarding your fabric stash.

Do you want me to come over there? I will happily tell them to bite me on your behalf if you'd like.

Please dont get rid of your fabric. You will regret it!!My DS and DIL could care less as they live in Fl. My DD and SIL live in NC [60 miles away] Dont care either. They just love it that I have something to keep be busy and they love always reaping the benefits of my sewing. Not to mention my daughters son[my GS] is 11 and comes to stay with me and likes to play. Last summer he made his own quilt and did a great job I might add.

when my kids pay the bills they can complain. As for dh.....I don't spend as much a month on fabric as he does cigarettes and fabric is NOT bad for my health!
