Those PREWOUND BOBBINS come in 2 sizes, M and L. I think M will fit a regular sewing machine or embroidery machine. I use the L size on my longarm quilting machine; they also fit my commercial sewing machine.

I was given a case of very old small spools of thread in a case, various colors, and not wanting to risk using them for a project I use them to baste my quilt sandwiches. Works fine & since I just remove it & throw it away I'm not wasting my good thread. My twin granddaughters also like playing with them. LOL

I would get a nice old glass jar and put them in the jar or a large vase, especially if the thread is old and weak. Don't throw them away.

Use it! I am still sewing with thread I inherited from my great aunt, grandmother and mother and I am 74 years old! I rarely have to buy a spool of thread, the older ones, and ugly ones, can be used for basting. Just enjoy, if it isn't good it will tell you.

A friend of mine found an old lamp with a clear glass base at the thrift shop. She filled the base with a bunch of wooden spools of thread. It is so cute!

If I'm not mistaken, the silk and rayon will last eons.
With the cotton I would test it as suggested.

Oh keep the wooden spools! I buy them from the flea markets to put in my old jars and use them to decorate my sewing room. They are not cheap either. If you don't want to decorate with them be sure you sell them instead of throwing them away. :)

At one of our quilt shows someone had displayed the old wooden spools in a gum ball machine. It was really cute. You could also make a lamp for your sewing room by getting a lamp kit to go with your clear glass container. Maybe a huge mason jar would be just the right display.
