If you continue to have trouble with them, contact your county cooperative extension office -- they are affiliated with one of your state's universities and have a ton of reference materials, especially in ag fields.

I think this is what we call Lovebugs because they are always connected to a friend when they get bad. It is only certain times of the year we get them in Texas. I think more towards the fall. Will make an awful mess of your vehicle.

I wonder with whoever said it is a "love bug". That is what we have called "sex bugs". They fly around with their back ends stuck together. The only thing, the above mentioned bugs usually have more orange on them instead of the back part being all black.
Check with your county extension agent. S/he would probably know or have someone in the office that would.

It is always such a joy to read this board and if I ever need an answer to a question, I always come here.
Thanks so much for all the great answers... it is, indeed, a firefly, I found out... but not one that lights up.
I will definitely try the downy dryer sheet, and will look for a spray bottle too.
I looked at the OFF clips, but it only mentioned mosquitos.
These guys wouldn't "bug" me so much... hehe... if they didn't fly around my face and head and land on me. I understand they won't be around after June, so I'm good.
Another bug I hate??? EARWIGS!!!! Ewwwwwwww  gives me the shivers just to think of them. Does anyone else have a problem with them? They are all over the place around here! OMG... I could have nightmares about them!
Anyway, thanks again for all your help! :D

Box Elder bug definitely! They can be very annoying. Good news they don't bite. Bad news they swarm every 7 years. Our house would be covered till it was black. The live of course in Box Elder trees. If you find the tree you will find the source and the nest. They can be exterminated but they due lay dormant and can come back in later years. We had to have the whole tree removed. Good Luck.
