I am a hacock of Paduch on line person .I have only bought their web specials and that includes some great wide backing in white that does not have to be used as backing The price is equal to Joanns but the quality is fantastic i never use Joann for a quilt after seeing all the fading that happened on their fabrics. They also give a generous cut.

Remember if you don't purchase from local quilt shops they will be gone and online will be the only thing left.

Try Field's Fabrics if you have one near you. They have a bargain room full of bolt after bolt of fabric that is marked down to bottom prices. I just picked up some really nice muslin the other day for 2.97 a yard! Just be sure if you find some that you get enough on your first visit. It might be gone next time you go back.

Be careful to always buy a good quality. You don't want to use a fabric that is going to fade quickly or get thread bare quickly. I used my favorite prints to make a flannel quilt. I still love the quilt but I can see the quality of the fabric is not good and it seems to be getting more thread bare than I would like.

Kona cotton at Jo Ann's with a coupon is the best way to go.

After reading through the replies (and finding new sites to scope out), I find they all have merit. I have had good luck with Connecting Threads, Hancocks of Paduka (sp ) as well as Quilt in a Day, when I saw a sale fabric I liked. I've done about 9 or 10 family reunion quilts - all scrappy - and I find that using the same background works best for me. However, This year, due to a severely restricted budget, I have used 2 different white-on-white fabrics, because I got over-zealous and cut out strips, then decided on a larger block (dumb), but I was constantly holding the fabric up to the light to even determine which was the right side, and I figured if I was having that much trouble - no one else was going to notice. Good luck on your quilt, it sounds very pretty.
