i had one and it does work really well. I stopped sewing for a year after we moved and lost it and I miss it :( I always feel like it's a waste to throw it away when I know it could be like new again with one of those. I used to get like 4 sharpenings out of each blade! I used to sew and sell alot of cloth diapers and each diaper had like 8 layers so it was alot of cutting :)

I am often wondering abut the blade, and I admit, the sewing machine needle, I hate to change, it's just so small and in a small space...my hands get all tangeled up...

I use the sharpener. It's so much easier when the blade is sharp.

Change blades way oftener now that I found the Harbor Freight carpet cutter replacement blades. They are around $1 a blade instead of the $8-$9 of regular blades. I don't know if they work in all cutters, but they do in the Martelli cutter.

Saw a great sign in a quilt shop: "Replacing your blade is like buying a new bra- you hate to spend the money but are much happier once you do!"
