I do! My grandmother taught me, 60 years ago! I like to have some hand work in progress so I can just sit and relax and keep my hands busy while I watch/listen to TV. I have taught my granddaughter. She and I went on a vacation together and had fun stitching.

Everyone's projects are beautiful! Here's my SBS in redwork. I found the Irish Chain layout by doing a 'search' on webshots for redwork quilts.

This is before I sewed the blocks together. I ended up replacing the bottom left block.

Yes, hand embroidery is alive and well in Oregon! The local quilt shop even offers classes and the teacher also does the "utility" stitches that were long ago used in pioneer homes. I myself do hand embroidery, counted x-stitch, knitting (and purling too!), crochet and quilting. Everything goes in cycles and the time has come around for all the "old" arts. Embroidery is something I am able to do in the evening after all the outside work is done. Very gratifying.

Lovely work. It gives me another idea of how to complete a quilt .

I don't do alot of it but when i need it I do use some of it in my projects.
I like to draw my own designs but they are more old fashioned than most of what you see today.
Anyone else still doing it by hand?
Hi Rhonda I do hand embroidery and so do LOTS of the ladies in the group I belong to. I'm machine quilting a Halloween Theme quilt my friend did right now. And I'm working on this really cute BOM, http://cinderberrystitches.typepad.com/ I've got all the block now but between being really sick for a month and behind on the quilt I'm suppose to quilt... I've only got three blocks completed. If you enjoy hand work you'll love meeting this darling lady from Australia.. Enjoy~

Thank you everyone for all of your comments and I see that hand embroidery and hand sewing is alive and well!!! :D :D :D

I love all the pictures you have all contributed!!

It is so much fun to ask a question like this and see all the come backs from everyone!!!!

It seemed to me that all I saw anymore was machine embroidery. Not that there is anything wrong with doing on a machine. There are some very beautiful designs made that way.

I was just wanting to reach out to anyone who loves what I love. I get great satisfaction out of being able to do the stitches and I am always looking for more stitches to learn!! This was the very first sewing I ever learned to do by hand. I learned on a crewel kit. Then I progressed to embroidery and other needlework.

I am glad that it is still being done by so many!!!
