I take them out.. my machine is worth more than the itty bitty split second it would take me to remove the needle that could cause enormous damage to it - why pay a repair man when i could very well use THAT money to buy more fabric..

I do my best to never sew overf pins, as I could damage the needle, and I hate having to put in a new needle because then I'd have to rethread the machine - not fun. I try to pin far enough back so that I don't have to take the pins out, but if not, I take them out before I get to them.

I have a Viking computerized and when I got it the dealer told me NEVER to sew over pins with my machine. So I never do. I usually put the pins in horizontally just so the presser foot misses them. If I'm matching seams, I put them in vertically and sew right up to them and then remove before going over them.
