I use flannel for the back of quilts for kids, sometimes big kids too. Makes them cuddly. :thumbup:

I made all my grand kiddies flannel quilts. Used Yellow Brick Road pattern and they all loved them.

Did the same thing for wedding presents for Northern family members.

Everyone loves the flannel quilts because they are so warm and soft.

Make your granddaughter a receing blanket but make it longer (use 1 3/4 yards instead of 1 1/4 yards. It makes it long enough to take a nap or use while watching tv.
I always back my quilts with flannel.
Use flannel instead of batting for a light weight quilt.
You can make receiving blankets & donate them to a hospital or shelter.

I love my king size flannel quilt but it was really heavy to work on. I used the heavier flannels JoAnns sold a few years ago, countryside flannel I think it was called.

I found it easier to match seams by pressing them open and it reduced the bulk a lot. I also think strips smaller than 2-2.5 inches are about as small as I would go because you get so many pieces and seams it gets really heavy which was wonderful when we lived in Missouri but I don't use it as much down here in Florida!
