    I think stitch-in-the-ditch is the way to go. I think it would outline the pattern the best. But, then again, I lile stitch-in-the-ditch.

    WOW you really got a beautiful gift!! Your quilting is always beautiful but I think this time I think I would have it hand quilted.

    IF IT IS HAND PIECECD DO NOT HAVE IT LONG ARM DONE WAS TOLD THE SPEAD OF A LONG MACHINE WILL TEAR UP THE QUILT AND BREAK ALL THE THREADS SO IT NEEDS TO ME HAND QUILTED I HAVE A SIMILAIR QUILT TOP I FOUND AT A RUMMAGE SALE AND I AM WAITING TO HAND QUILT IT IS REALLY NICE YOUR QUILT TOP MINE HAD A WHITE BACKGROUND AND IT KING SIZES GOOD LUCK

    My vote would be to hand quilt it. I still have quilts my grandma handpieced and hand quilted. What a special gift from your friend.
