Letterboxing and GeoCaching are not completely the same. As with Letterboxing, you need a rubber stamp, and a stamp pad.. in geocaching you need some form of a gps unit..and a pen or pencil. I know in our area, there are not many letter boxes left..we have plenty of geocaches.

When my now 20 year old son was younger, we went all over the place with him and his friends, finding geo caches on the desert, in the woods, at the beach, you name it. We got several families involved in it as well.

When various relatives came to visit from out of state, we took them "treasure hunting." They could not believe how much fun they had!

One thing everyone we ever took with us had in common - they thought it was such a kick!! We used a hand held GPS unit.

Brings back fond memories...

Brings back fond memories!

Love love love that there are so many cachers on this board!!!!

We haven't found any Travel Bugs or Geo Coins yet, so I can't wait to find one.

We have been scoping out locations to hide caches, including my brother-in-laws business which we will speak to him about tomorrow night, as a way to draw in some customers (He owns a pizza shop in the middle of no where).

I can't wait til the weekend to go for more caches. The weather isn't looking that great but I don't care!

Does anyone know if people who use wheelchairs do this? I've never checked into this. Sounds like fun.

My husband said some will say wheelchair capable, and he said they list terrains as 1 and 1..wheelchairs can be used. He also said, he does know some in wheelchairs are able to do this.

Since Hubby and I got new smart phones a couple weeks ago that have GPS, we decided to give it a try this weekend, and all I have to say is it is the most fun thing inn the world (next to quilting)!

It's something our little 4some can do together, although it is difficult with a 3 year old. We logged one cache on Saturday, 5 yesterday and are going to get a DNF from yesterday tonight after DH gets out of work. TOo many muggles around to make the grab so we think it'll be muggle free this evening. I have to say I am addicted!

So...any other GC's out there??
Ms. Blzzrdqueen, you've created two monsters!  I'd heard about geocaching and kind of knew what it was, but never really gave it any thought. After reading your post, I mentioned it to DH, and his ears perked up! Long story short, we're now Premium Members on geocaching.com and spent the last two weekends poking through bushes, under trees, and under rocks!

We're up to 33 finds so far, and plan to go again next weekend. What fun!

We ran into another geocacher at 2am in the morning, both of us trying to be the first to find a brand new cache. He got there about 15 minutes before we did (bummer), but we had a nice chat. He's found over 7,000 caches. He obviously has more time and more gas money than we do! LOL!

Thanks for posting this thread. DH seems to have lost interest in his other hobbies, and this has been a good way to get us out of the house some on weekends. :)

moonrise..I am also thinking that guy has been doing it much longer. As my husband has over 1400 finds. Now with winter coming closer, he will slow down finding them. Also he now has to drive at least 1 1/2 hours to find more now.
