I will be one that does not jump on the slam wagon. I go into every shop with the idea that it will be a positive experience and it usually is because they have FABRIC and I love FABRIC!

I wouldn't have been comfortable buying something from a dirty store, either, but the chatty gal doesn't sound much different than most of us here on QB!
I can empathize with you! I can't imagine how they stay in business. I also must say I wouldn't..couldn't buy fabric full of dust, dander, and whatever else, but to me it just sounds sad... I also have to say the chatting could also be nerves...and hoping if she seemed friendly enough you may buy something...

Not a quilt store but a second hand bookstore. The owner had several cats it smelled in his shop, and you see the dust mites and dander in the air. It was a sunny day. But the worst, and it still makes me gagged to think of it, was a huge spread of cat poo behind on of the bookshelves. The owner seemed oblivious to it all. Phew.

There's one like those near me but not quite as bad. They way they stay open is to move periodically so people think its a new LQS. Sad.

I would be happy with choices==the only 2 w/in driving distance are owned by same person. They are interested in selling expensive machines, and it took over 10 minutes to find a hand sewing needle to check a needle threader.

I know of some wonderful "redneck" quilt shops...
