    Default Log Cabin Quilt

Susa pieced this lovely Log Cabin top using homespuns with muslin for the light strips and for the backing. Even though there is a lot of quilting the quilt is very nice and soft, due to the muslin used for a good part of the quilt. (another reason to love muslin). We chose Hobbs 80/20 natural batting with neutral thread throughout. I quilted feathers on the dark fabric and what was suppose to be ferns on the light, but the ferns ended up looking more like holly. All freehanded I hope you enjoy looking.

I think that is wonderful! I like the way the pieces are different sizes and fabrics. The kind of quilt that you just want to snuggle under!

That is a gorgeous, traditional quilt and I love the fabrics she used. It must have been harder working with homespuns, since they tend to ravel and not hold their shape as well as more tightly woven fabrics. Your quilting is beautiful. Actually holly would be very appropriate for this quilt, given the colors in it. I'm interested in your comment about the muslin keeping the quilt soft. I didn't realize this was the case. Is it really softer than most other cotton quilting fabrics?
